10 Signs You Have Chronic Inflammation

You have a marvelous body. No, really! The rigors your body goes through every day just to keep you moving are amazing. The human body has an unbelievable capacity to defend itself against the most intrusive invaders.Inflammation is your best friend in an emergency. However, when it becomes chronic inflammation, it causes a host of health problems. Find out if it's at the root of your health concerns.

Just think of how many colds, flus, and infections your body wards off every year. Sure, it’s not a win every time. You probably get sick every now and then. However, thanks to your body’s inflammation response, you remain healthy much of the time. Hooray for inflammation!

Wait, are we really excited about inflammation? Isn’t it kind of a bad thing?

The Truth About Inflammation

The truth is, inflammation is mostly good. It protects your body from foreign invaders, and it helps you heal when you have an injury. For example, when you injure yourself, the damaged area will often swell up. This signals that the body is doing its job by surrounding the affected tissue with what it needs to heal properly. As the area starts to heal, the inflammation naturally recedes, signaling that things are getting back to normal.

However, what if that area remained swollen for years, or even decades? Certainly you would know that something was wrong. This would be a case of inflammation gone awry.

Sadly, this can happen internally, where no one can see such obvious symptoms. Chronic inflammation can be the result of failure to rid the body of infection, autoimmune activity, or even a chronic irritant. When this occurs, you may feel “not well”. Perhaps initially you just don’t feel very good — not like yourself. However, this can put you at risk later on for more serious conditions such as:

  • rheumatoid arthritis
  • heart disease
  • cancer
  • asthma
  • Crohn’s disease
  • peptic ulcers
  • fibromyalgia
  • lupus
  • Addison’s disease

Therefore, identifying the early signs of chronic inflammation is paramount to good health now and in the future!

10 Signs You Have Chronic Inflammation

If you’ve been suffering from chronic inflammation, you are no doubt experiencing one or more of the following persistent symptoms:

1. Chronic Pain

Inflammation causes swelling which irritates surrounding nerves, sending pain signals to your brain.

2. Low Energy

It requires a lot of resources for your body to fight inflammation. Unfortunately, you may not have enough energy left over to carry on your normal life.

3.  Frequent Headaches

Headaches can have many causes. If you suffer from them frequently, your body may be mounting an attack against inflammation in your sinuses, or really anywhere in your body. Resources such as water are pulled to flush out infection and may lead to dehydration and thus headaches. Inflammation may also be causing swelling to push on nerve endings which then cause pain.

4. Chronic Allergies

Whether it’s triggered by food or other irritants, your body may react to chronic inflammation by being a bit too eager. It may start to see benign things as threats, including foods, flowers, trees, and other “irritants”.

5. High Blood Pressure

Chronic inflammation has a damaging effect on the arteries and can lead to high blood pressure.

6. Brain Fog

Chronic inflammation inhibits your body’s ability to clear out toxins. When these build up you may experience symptoms of brain fog, or not being able to think clearly.

7. Chronic Skin Issues

Eczema, psoriasis, and hives are signals that your body is fighting chronic inflammation.

8. Obesity

Obesity can be a sign of chronic inflammation since it may signal that your body is attacking glands and organs that help regulate your metabolism.

9. Insomnia

Since chronic inflammation affects everything from your hormones to your ability to excrete toxins, you may find yourself wide awake until the wee hours of the morning.

10. Digestive Complaints

IBS, frequent upset stomach, chronic diarrhea, or constipation are all signs that you are suffering from chronic inflammation.
