Inflammation occurs when your body releases cytokines to fight infection, heal trauma, or fend off bacteria. However, sometimes you get too much of a good thing. Your body might release inflammatory cytokines even when there is no clear and present danger, or it may continue to release them long after a threat passes. When this happens, you end up with chronic inflammation.
Common Solutions for Chronic Inflammation
No doubt you’ve been to your doctor to find the cause of all of your bizarre and seemingly unrelated health concerns. Or you may have a very obvious reason for inflammation — perhaps an old injury. Whatever the case, your doctor may have prescribed you pain pills to deal with your discomfort. He may also have recommended NSAIDs such as ibuprofen or aspirin.
If your problems seem more vague, your doctor might order a truckload of tests. Perhaps your migraines are debilitating but seem to have no apparent cause. Or your fatigue is beyond bearable, and you just can’t pinpoint the reason for it. Your tests may even come back negative on all counts, so you are given a prescription for anti depressants and sent on your way.
These are all band-aid approaches to a common issue that may be at the root of your health concerns — chronic inflammation.
Dealing with Chronic Inflammation Head On – and Naturally!
Turmeric is one of nature’s most powerful anti-inflammation superheroes. It contains a substance called curcumin that is a natural anti-inflammatory. It works much the same as NSAIDs or hydrocortisone, but without the unwanted side effects like stomach bleeding and ulcers.
Turmeric also contains plenty of anti-oxidants, which eliminate the free radicals that make your joints swell and cause you pain. This is a great long-term solution, since eliminating free radicals fights signs of aging, and taking turmeric regularly for the rest of your life is perfectly safe.
What does turmeric taste like? It’s mild and has a bit of a peppery flavor with hints of orange. It’s orange in color and can be used either in powder form or fresh. Both should be organic when possible.
